Root Canal Treatment (Endodontics)
Endodontics (root canal treatment) is the branch of Dentistry that deals with pathologies of the pulp (the part of the tooth that contains the nerve and blood vessels).
When decay reaches a considerable depth, the bacteria present contaminate the nerve and an infection develops that is transmitted to the tooth root and the surrounding bone.
In these cases there is the need to do Endodontic Treatment which is commonly called "Devitalization" or "Root Canal Treatment". This treatment consists of removing the infected nerve and then sealing it with material.
After this treatment the tooth should then be reinforced with a restoration or a crown. Through this treatment it is possible to keep a tooth fulfilling it's chewing and aesthetic function that whitout this option would have to be extracted.
